Mackos Architecture and Construction is a design build firm. We offer full architectural services, pre-construction services and course of construction shop drawings and detailing. All of which can be combined to produce true design build architecture. Trained as architects as well as contractors, we make every effort to create architecture without compromise to design and detail, while operating within the guidelines of budget and schedule.

“Mackos Architecture and Design built a house for me between 2011 & 2012. This was the 3rd custom home/major remodel I was involved with over the past 15 years.

Modern architecture requires a much higher level or workmanship that traditional design (Tuscan, French Country, Farmhouse, etc.) because there is no trim to hide imperfections where the floor and walls and ceilings intersect. One of the reasons I hired Steph Mackos was because he only builds (and designs) modern homes, so he has relationships with the best subcontractors.

I gave Steph a budget that I wanted to work within (I gave him a lower number than I was prepared to go to) and he obtains several bids per trade and we massaged the budget and being familiar with working with spreadsheets, I double checked everything and his numbers were always accurate.

I was at the jobsite almost daily (since I lived 5 houses away) and got to meet all the subcontractors. The process was very enjoyable and completed within the promised schedule.

After going through this process several times, I’ve learned that building a house from a set of working drawings requires a lot of problem solving. Since Steph has a degree in architecture, his knowledge of how to solve problems was invaluable. Steph is meticulously detailed and is very demanding with the quality of work by the subcontractors, and I’m thrilled with the quality of workmanship.

When the house was completed, I actually missed the daily interaction I had with Steph. I feel that we developed a friendship and we regularly stay in touch. We have been living in our home for 9 years now, and although the warranty expired long ago, Steph is always there for me whenever I have questions or issues, which to me is priceless.”
